Ingredients

  • 2 large ripe bananas peeled and sliced
  • 1 cup cold milk
  • ½ cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon honey or to taste
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ –1 cup ice cubes depending on desired thickness
  • Banana slices and a light sprinkle of cinnamon for optional garnish

Equipment

  • High-powered blender
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Serving glasses
  • Knife and cutting board

Method

  1. Prepare the bananas: Peel and slice the ripe bananas into smaller pieces. For an extra-thick and cold smoothie, use frozen banana pieces.
  2. Add the liquid: Pour the cold milk into the blender first. Starting with the liquid helps the blender process the remaining ingredients more easily.
  3. Add remaining ingredients: Add the Greek yogurt, sliced bananas, honey, cinnamon, and ice.
  4. Blend: Secure the blender lid and blend on low speed initially, then increase to high. Blend for 30–60 seconds, or until the smoothie is completely smooth, creamy, and free of large banana pieces.
  5. Adjust consistency: If the smoothie is too thick, add a small splash of milk and blend again. If it is too thin, add a little more banana or a few ice cubes.
  6. Taste: Taste before serving and add more honey or cinnamon if desired.
  7. Serve: Pour immediately into chilled glasses. Garnish with a few banana slices and a light dusting of cinnamon, if desired.

Notes

Use ripe bananas with a few brown spots for the sweetest and most flavorful smoothie.
Frozen bananas create a thicker, colder smoothie and reduce the need for ice.
Taste before adding honey because very ripe bananas may provide enough natural sweetness.
For a dairy-free version, substitute your favorite unsweetened plant-based milk and dairy-free yogurt.
For a vegan version, use plant-based milk and yogurt and replace honey with maple syrup or omit it.
For a peanut butter banana smoothie, blend in 1–2 tablespoons of creamy peanut butter.
For a chocolate banana smoothie, add 1 tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa powder.
For a strawberry banana smoothie, add about 1 cup of fresh or frozen strawberries.
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator and consume within about 24 hours for the best quality. Shake or stir well before serving.
