Method
- Prepare the fruit: Wash the berries, cucumber, citrus, and mint. Slice the cucumber and citrus, and reserve a few attractive pieces for garnishing.
- Prepare the citrus juice: Squeeze the lemons, limes, and orange. Strain out large seeds while keeping as much fresh pulp as desired.
- Create the fruit base: Divide the mixed berries among the four glasses. Gently muddle the berries to release some of their juices without completely crushing them.
- Add the fresh flavors: Add a few cucumber slices and mint leaves to each glass. Gently press them with a muddler or the back of a wooden spoon to release their flavors.
- Add citrus: Divide the freshly squeezed lemon, lime, and orange juice between the glasses. Taste the mixture and add a small amount of zero-calorie sweetener if additional sweetness is needed.
- Add ice: Fill each glass generously with ice.
- Add sparkling water: Slowly pour the chilled sparkling water into each glass, leaving a little room at the top for garnishes.
- Stir gently: Use a bar spoon to give each mocktail one or two gentle stirs. Avoid vigorous stirring so the carbonation remains intact.
- Garnish: Finish with fresh berries, a citrus wheel, cucumber ribbon, and a few mint leaves.
- Serve immediately: Serve the mocktails while they are thoroughly chilled and highly carbonated.
Notes
For the lowest-calorie version, use unsweetened sparkling water and a zero-calorie sweetener instead of regular syrups.
Freshly squeezed citrus provides much better flavor than bottled juice.
Add sparkling water immediately before serving to preserve carbonation.
For a lower-carb variation, reduce the amount of orange juice and berries and emphasize cucumber, lime, mint, and sparkling water.
For entertaining, prepare the fruit and citrus mixture in advance, refrigerate it, and add ice and sparkling water just before serving.
This recipe is gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian when all ingredients are used as specified.
